'A REPORT: CIRCLE OR CURVE?'

BriefI worked with Andrew Herzog, who is the co-founder of School and an artist, to design his first book in a series about making public art. We dedicated to designing the content architecture for a series of books that give readers a how-to perspective on making public art through the lens of one particular work at a time.

About The BookA Report: Circle Or Curve? is the first in a series of books by Andrew Herzog documenting one of his public art installations. The Report dedicates a section to each step (framing ideas, affordances, process, realization, and references) that went into Herzog’s 2018 installation, Circle Or Curve?, in which he painted a meter wide, one-kilometer diameter circle around the National Museum of Art of Romania.

Inspiration 01

Given the content of the book was didactic in nature we wanted to approach the design from the perspective of a textbook-like artifact. The way it was written made note of all sorts of details that would require a complex system for organization.

Inspiration 02

The layout of a script allows its owner to write, circle, cross things out, take notes, etc., mark down their thoughts directly on the blank spaces of the documents.
Typographic system for the A Report: series

Design Concept We designed the content structure of the book, workshopping a system that could ultimately be filled with content from any of his future projects. Ultimately the book was broken into two sections denoted by their paper stock and printing technique.
